Domingos Caholo Duarte, Deputy
Director
Born in Malange Province, Mr. Duarte has been Deputy Director for Technical
Affairs since August 2002. Currently preparing his doctoral thesis on fishing
communities in Angola, he holds a degree in Biology from the Angolan University
and an MSc degree in marine biology from the University of Cape Town. Before his
appointment as Deputy Director, Mr. Duarte has worked as senior researcher at
the Institute of Marine Research in Luanda for 10 years. Following his
post-degree studies in botany at the Agronomy University Institute in Portugal,
he worked in the National Centre of Scientific Research as a botanist. He has
also worked as an agricultural technician, and has served in the Angolan army’s
maritime war section. Mr. Duarte is fluent in Portuguese, speaks English and
French, and has excellent computer skills.
